[edit] Woodworkers Bench

Here is a sturdy table you can make in a few hours for about $95. It is not as rugged as some Wood Worker's Benches, but it is an excellent work area.

[edit] Woodworkers Bench

One of the first tools a beginning woodworker needs is a good solid workbench with a real woodworking vice. This bench need not be a fancy affair made of expensive woods in some classic style. The first bench must be cheap, easy to make, and solid. The following design meets this need.

[edit] Woodworkers Bench

This workbench plan uses 2 x 4s to produce a relatively cheap, and functional, workbench that can be constructed in a day.

[edit] Work Bench

A beginner should be able to complete this project in one weekend using common household tools.

[edit] Plane Blade, -Honing Jig

This honing jig uses a decorator's seaming roller which lets you use the whole length of the stone and doesn't crush its surface.

[edit] Plane Guide, Ramped Shooting Board

This has a fairly complex construction since I wanted it to be light to handle - I keep it next to my sawing board. It is best to make the separate bearers and fix them temporarily to a baseboard. With angles such as 1 in 10 a small error can make a significant difference, so ......

[edit] Plane Guide, -Shooting Board

It can be difficult to accurately plane a square edge on thin stuff. The 'freehand' way is described at Planing a Square Edge. You can shoot an edge simply by raising the work piece by inserting a packing piece between it and a flat and smooth bench top. Rest the end of the board against the bench stop and run the plane on the bench top.

[edit] Marking Gauge

This gauge was made to work inside a rebate (rabbet) where the end of the usual stem would catch the rebate wall.

[edit] Sawing Stool, Horse, -Traditional

Because the legs slope both ways, the drawing does not show the true lengths of the legs, nor the actual angles. However the angle difference is small, so errors can be easily fiddled with a bit of canny paring on the leg shoulders.

[edit] Clamp Pads, Stay In Place

When clamping glued-up stock, the pads you use between the clamp jaws and the stock fall out before you can tighten the clamps. Here's a solution using scrap wood.

[edit] Corner Clamp

Whenever I’m assembling mitred frames, I have a difficult time holding the frame pieces in position while gluing or installing fasteners. But instead of buying an expensive corner clamp, I made my own using a couple of pipe clamps, as shown in the photo.

[edit] Edge Banding Clamp

I ran out of clamps and patience the last time I applied a veneered edge to a long piece of plywood. The tangle of clamps to hold the veneer and cauls in place was more than I could take! To make life simpler, I came up with a slick way to clamp edge banding onto the ends of long boards without the need for long, cumbersome pipe clamps.

[edit] Clamp, Shop Made

There are times when you just don't have enough clamps. But don't worry - you don't have to blow your budget on new ones. Here's an easy-to-build clamp that will work great for most projects. What's unique about these clamps is how the pressure is applied. Instead of tightening a threaded screw, a wood wedge is tapped between the clamp and the work piece.

[edit] Clamp, Shop-Built Edge Banding

An edge banding clamp is one of those tools you don’t need very often, but when you glue a face around a radiuses edge, nothing else can do the job. And when you need these clamps, you usually need lots of them. At a minimum of $10 each, the cost can add up. In contrast, Frank Gregg’s shop-built edge banding clamps cost only a couple dollars each, plus they won’t mar the surface of your work.

[edit] Cam Clamps

The use of the cam clamp or the soft clamp is synonymous with lutherie .I first saw these clamps as a student in the Guitar makers shop as I made my first guitar. When I returned home I tried to make my own . The design I came up with is fairly typical of these clamps but as you do when left to your own there are variations.
