The closing together of components (ie double or french doors) in furniture, Joinery and carpentry form a joint which can be regarded as air tight, dust proof or water tight are known as hinging and shutting joints.


[edit] Rebated Joints:


These joints are generally found when two doors having rebated front stiles are closed together (i.e. French style doors).



[edit] Lapped Joint:


Formed when a door or drawer is closed. Partly or completely covers a pilaster front frame, edge rails and stiles.
