[edit] Grouting

As with Slate, grout joints on Terracotta are large and need a coarse ABA Quarry Grout. Mix with with ABA Flexible Grout Additive.

[edit] Sealing Terracotta

Remember, we do not recommend that Terracotta be used in "wet areas". Beaumont Tiles generally sell Eureka Terracotta products. These are dense and have a low porosity.

Allow 7-10 days after laying and grouting to ensure terracotta and adhesive are fully dry.

Clean the Terracotta with Slate Clean or Lift Off to remove dirt, dust, grout or other impurities. Rinse this cleaner from the surface and allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours.

[edit] For a natural finish

To achieve a natural or unsealed look, but still protecting Terracotta, apply a minimum of 3 coats of Heritage Finish. Allow 4- 6 hours between coats. Over time, the Terracotta will take on a natural aged "patina". Heritage Finish will help protect staining from penetrating too quickly.

Maintenance is to apply more coats of Heritage Finish.

[edit] For a gloss finish

Clean as detailed, allow to dry thoroughly, then apply 2-3 coats of Terracotta Seal. Allow 4-6 hours between coats. Terracotta Seal will darken Terracotta.

Apply two coats of Slate Finish using light spray and lambs wool applicator. First coat apply with a north-south sweeping motion. Second coat with an east-west motion. Allow one hour drying time between coats.

Allow to dry fully for 6 hours and the floor is ready for use.

NOTE: Slate Finish is not suitable for outdoor use. If sealing Terracotta outdoors, maintain with further coats of Terracotta Seal. (It is generally not advised to seal terracotta outdoors.)

[edit] Cleaning

Regularly sweep or vacuum. Washing the floor should only require a few drops of mild detergent in a bucket of warm water and a damp mop.

[edit] Maintenance

In doorways and high traffic areas when the floor loses its sheen, maintain with a very light spray of Slate Finish and a lambs wool applicator to the localised area.
