Description: The professionals choice for French Polish Shellac is a completely natural product and in fact is made from the shells and secretions of the lac beetle of south-east asia. Hence the name: shell - lac, it comes in the form of loose flakes. Shellac produces a soft, warm glow which is much more subtle than the glossy sheen of polyurethane finishes, it can be waxed or simply allowed to stand on it's own. Shellac has been used to provide a finish to furniture & joinery of old houses, including staircases, doors, architraves and skirting boards for centuries.
To Make A Liquid Polish/Sealer: Use a plastic container and cover 100g of Shellac Flakes with 400mL of Diggers Methylated Spirits. Stir Shellac until it has fully dissolved, filter to remove any un-dissolved particles. Application Polish: Apply thin coats to timber surface by brushing, spraying or using a soft cloth in a circular motion. Smooth with fine steel wool and buff up with a lint free cloth. Sealer Application: Use mixture to seal water stains prior to painting. Can be applied to slightly damp surfaces. ALWAYS test a small area first. Drying Time: In normal conditions, re-coat in 1 hour and fully dry in 24 hours. Polish Maintenance: Buff regularly with a silicone free polish or wax. Cleanup: Diggers Methylated Spirits . Notes: Do not let solution come into contact with metal or tin as this may darken solution. Add more Shellac if thicker viscosity is required, always ensure all Shellac has dissolved before applying.
