How to make a Sleigh Bed
[edit] Bed, Sleigh - with coopered panels
This is a summary of our adventures in building a sleigh bed. We wanted a sleigh bed for our son, but were unable to find decent plans. All the plans we found, and all the manufactured beds we looked at (except the really expensive ones, like $8000) had flat panels set into curved posts. There was a reasonably good set of Plans in Fine Woodworking magazine of a bed made by Chris Becksvoort that gave us some useful tips. We wanted properly curved panels. So we just decided to make up our own plans.

[edit] Bed Head
Building a headboard is really easy, costs a fraction of what a store-bought headboard costs, and you can have it in any colour because you are the master designer here. And the head painter. And the head sleeper. So you can add any built-in option you want, including cup holders, reading lamps, speakers and a hands-free phone.

[edit] Bed, Rope
Rope beds are easy to make and relatively comfortable on which to sleep. The basic idea behind a rope bed is a wooden frame within which is stretched a lattice of ropes. you place a mattress on the ropes and sleep on that.
